ClimAlign was hired by Union for Mediterranean (UfM) to develop the Mediterranean Energy and Climate Project Toolkit (MedBank) to enhance the “bankability” of energy and climate projects in the Mediterranean region. The toolkit will specifically address region-specific challenges, including gaps in climate risk data, financial complexities, and regulatory uncertainties.
The project includes the following 3 phases:
- Phase 1: Conduct a gap analysis to identify specific needs and challenges for project developers in the Mediterranean, involving key stakeholders such as energy regulators, project developers, financial institutions, and local authorities.
- Phase 2: Develop a toolkit that provides region-specific data, guidelines, and best practices. The toolkit will include resources that help users not only access information but also learn how to implement it effectively, such as interactive modules and case studies. It will further be ground tested on project developers. The toolkit will integrate gender-sensitive approaches and prioritize inclusivity to address barriers faced by underrepresented groups, including women and youth, in project development.
- Phase 3: A pilot testing and refinement to validate the toolkit’s effectiveness and usability. The toolkit will be tested with selected project developers, and feedback from the pilot phase will be used to refine its content and structure.
