Türkiye Green Economy Financing Facility II (GEFF Türkiye II) is a framework operation of EUR 750 million under which credit lines will be provided by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to eligible commercial banks and leasing companies for on-lending to private and municipal sector borrowers including industrial companies and commercial enterprises as well as municipalities and municipal service providers for energy & resource efficiency (ResE), renewable energy (RE), and environmental investments. The aim of the facility is to:
- increase financing intermediation for RE, ResE and environmental investments to fill the sector’s remaining financing gaps in Türkiye,
- improve the banks’ skills in project appraisal of a broader set of eligible technologies,
- increase private sector involvement in the development and financing of ResE and environmental investments,
- support a select number of PFIs and their clients to better integrate climate change related risks into their approach to corporate governance,
- enhance end-beneficiaries’ management of climate change-related business opportunities and risks and improve their capacity to share relevant data with participating financial institutions (PFIs) and
- promote equal access to finance for both women and men-led sub-borrowers.
GEFF includes a comprehensive technical assistance package where a team of local and international experts, provide support to help prospective borrowers identify and develop sustainable resource projects and prepare successful loan applications under GEFF Türkiye. The team of experts also train loan officers at participating banks and leasing companies in the assessment of sustainable large and small-scale resource investments.
